Instrument Validation to Measure Teachers' Perceptions of Universal Design for Learning
2019
Faculty Perception of Inclusion in the University: Concept, Policies and Educational Practices
2021
European universities must face the challenge of diversity and design inclusive practices to address it as part of their social responsibility. However, not all universities are doing the same in terms of diversity practices, so it is important to gather the perceptions of the protagonists. To this end, we have analysed university faculty’s perceptions using a mixed model with a concurrent methodological strategy, including an ad hoc questionnaire validated with 880 educators, as well as 17 semi‐structured interviews. The triangulation of these two instruments allowed us to analyse three key dimensions associated with the idea of attention to diversity in the university: diversity concept o…
Ensuring Diverse User Experiences and Accessibility While Developing the TeSLA e-Assessment System
2019
The TeSLA project, with its new, innovative approaches for e-assessment, offers a great possibility for increasing the educational equality and making higher education studies available for all. It has been estimated that 10–15% of students in higher education institutions have some disabilities or special educational needs. At online universities or in online programmes, the number is even higher. These numbers emphasise the importance of the universal design for learning as a leading principle while developing the digital learning environments and e-assessment procedures. In this chapter, we describe the key elements of ensuring the accessibility of the TeSLA e-assessment system during th…
Flipped Classroom and Universal Design for Learning: Towards an Inclusive Educational Environment and Curriculum
2018
Flipped Classroom (FC) methodology too tends to make learning process signicant and accessible to every student. The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) could be the pedagogical approach that may help in responding to this challenge, since its key idea is remove all the barriers that even teaching methods and didactics can create. UDL is a concept extension of the Universal Design, an architectural movement whose idea was proposed rstly in 1987 by Ron Mace. The tenet that lies behind the Universal Design is that, in architecture, everything has to be conceived and designed in order to suit the widest range of users, including the ones with disabilities.
Universal Design for Learning come cornice per l’insegnamento inclusivo.
From Face-to-Face to Online UDeL Camps: Supporting Staff at Higher Education Institutions in Developing Universal Design for eLearning (UDeL)
2021
The TINEL Project is running a series of camps for staff at higher education institution to support them in developing inclusive eLearning. The first camp was conducted face-to-face, but the coronavirus pandemic meant that the second camp was conducted online. This created a case study in inclusive eLearning in itself and allowed us to experience and reflect on the challenges and opportunities of inclusive online teaching and learning. This paper presents the structure and content of the two camps, our reflections on moving from a face-to-face to an online situation and our elaboration how the UDL principles apply to eLearning to create Universal Design for eLearning (UDeL). We found that b…
The Principles of universal design for learning implementation in design study process
2015
Problem Statement: Starting their studies students have different level of perception and understanding. There is a need for an instructional framework that would allow educational programming, inclusive for all students.Research Questions: What is diversity of students learning strategies how can be facilitated students perception ability, expression and cooperation skills?Purpose of the Study: Objective of the current study is to investigate pedagogical possibilities to promote design students perception abilities and reasoning skills using in learning process principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in context of student’s diversity.Research Methods: In start up phase students w…
Possibilità di adattamento dell’approccio della Flipped Classroom (FC) al Universal Design for Learning (UDL). La percezione dei docenti universitari
2019
This research is about Flipped Classroom (FC) implementation in university context and aims to understand how this approach can be used in a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) environment and thus can help in creating inclusive spaces of teaching and learning. This work is an exploratory sequential design and will compare Flipped Classroom’s characteristics at university and UDL ones, in order to try and integrate these two approaches in the instructional practice. During the first phase of the study, in-depth semi-structured interviews were undertaken with academics that actually use Flipped Classroom. Then, in the second phase, a structured questionnaire built on interviews’ retrieved da…
The Facilitation of Design Students’ Spatial Perception in Study Process
2015
Spatial thinking is a considerable structural component of design students’ professional competence. Objective of the current study is to evaluate and promote spatial perception of students using in the learning process principles of universal design for learning (UDL). As the result a model for development of design students spatial perception has been developed and approbated.
